Loolah!

Meet Loolah, Sammy's new girlfriend!

I had asked one of my good friends if she could have a look in her local pet shop and let me know if there were any nice girl budgies.

One afternoon after visiting my dad in the nursing home where he now stays I decided to take a run in the car to have a look in this pet shop as I always think their animals look in good condition. They are never all crowded together as is the case in many pet shops.

I couldn't get near to the budgie cages as this lady and two young girls were standing in front of them. I felt a bit awkward as the area where the pets are kept is very small so I looked at some of the pet treats for a while and then approached the birds from the other direction. This lady was still there and I decided to try and peer at the budgies from an angle. I was standing there aware of this person next to me writing in a notebook when suddenly she said my name! She was my friend, standing taking notes on the various budgies so she could let me know what they had.

It was such a funny coincidence. My friend loved this sunny yellow one and she had checked out with the pet shop owner to find out which birds were the femals before I came in. This one was the most chunky of the lot although she looked a little bit quiet to me. I usually go for the real cheeky looking ones.

I decided to go back to the shop a few days later and bought her. She is so beautiful and is very cheeky too. She hit it off with Sammy right away and it was as though they had known each other all their lives. Maybe a quieter bird was a good choice as I didn't want one that would bully my male. They both seem very happy together and Loolah comes and goes in and out of the cage as she pleases. Sammy is not so keen as his eyesight isn't good but he is quite happy waiting around for her to return.

Here are a few photos of them meeting each other

First here she is coming out of the carrier box the pet shop put her in.

Sammy telling her secrets!

The next morning - making herself at home.

Blueberry

Well sad news on the budgie front. Poor Blueberry is ill and probably hasn't got much longer to live. She has kidney failure or something similar which is not surprising since she has never been the healthiest of budgies. I didn't expect her to have a long life since the day I brought her home from the pet shop. The store has gone from being a fairly good place to buy pets to one with animals and birds all crowded together. They seem to be more interested in making as much money as possible and less so in keeping healthy stock. No doubt the suppliers of the pets are just mass producing them. Blueberry's general health has never been great.

Here she is snuggled up to her pal 'Sammy'. It's quite sad to see him a bit confused about why she is sleeping all the time and not to her usual mischief.

There isn't really anything the Vet can do. We tried anitbiotics just on the off-chance she had an infection but they have had no effect.

Budgies

Here are my two pals!

Sammy and his mate Blueberry. Pets are great and small pets are not just for children. My quirky pair are so funny to watch. Sammy here (the yellow one) is making claim to the millet, but it's always ladies first in the budgie world whether he likes it or not!

Bag Size

Now I am beginning to realise why 'organiser bags' were around years ago. I owned one of these when I was twenty five but most of the sections were unused. Having one of these bags now would be so good, provided it was very large and able to hold the multitude of things I need to carry with me.

Now I have three pairs of specs. One pair for reading, a second for middle distance so that I can see a computer screen and the third pair for distance, necessary for reading the numbers on buses. I also carry a mobile telephone so that I can type notes into the memo pad to help my memory. A huge bottle of water is required to replace the amount of water I lose when my internal boiler switches itself on even although the temperature outside is in single figures. A small flask of coffee also goes with me sometimes to help my energy supplies.

So I need a big organiser bag with a pouch on each side deep enough to hold the water bottle on one side and the tiny coffee flask on the other. That way if one decides to suddenly spring a leak the other contents of my bag won't get soaked.

Washing Clothes

Here's my first blog. All about washing machines! Washing machines going round and round making you very cross-eyed! Today I spent hours working my way through a load of washing. Wow, seems so interesting. It was actually quite relaxing. Whilst the washing machine was working it's miracles on each load, I could carry out various much needed tasks suck as dyeing my hair.

Dyeing your hair is fine unless someone calls at the door, which is guaranteed to happen! Anyway, my hair turned out good despite the dye being on it for about an hour or so.

A successful afternoon's work done and a new hair do at the same time.

Bye for now
